The operator may want some personal comfort features. Some applications require the operator to stay with the train almost the entire shift. However, usually less than 50% of that this is moving railcars.  The other 50% is waiting around to be set move railcars as requested by the various departments in the plant.  The Process Locomotives can be equipped with air conditioning; water cooler; a galley with a refrigerator, sink, and coffee pot; window awnings; CCTV; restroom; extend cabs of 8 ft. x 10 ft. or 10 ft. x 10 ft. with extra seating; electric cab heaters; GPS; satellite or standard cell phones; and other comforts.  If the unit is equipped with an on-board HMI computer it will have full office facilities including MS Office, a cell phone or RF link modem, e-mail, a printer/fax machine, speakers, CD-ROM burner, DVD Player, speakers, mouse, and keyboard. The dual operator seats have high backs and arm rests.

The Process Locomotive is designed to make it's operator efficient, safe, and comfortable. No matter how well a manufacturer designs a machine it still takes an operator to make it perform. If the operator likes the machine and believes that it makes his life easier and/or better then he will take good care of that machine and he will do his best to operate it correctly.  It is in the simplicity of operation of the Process Locomotives that allows a smaller crew to do the same job that a larger crew could do using a standard diesel locomotive.  It also can lower accident rates and lost time injuries.

A basic truth in business is that the plant with the highest productivity and lowest operating costs will normally be the one that survives and be the one that gets capital improvement money to expand. The Process Locomotive will make the railcar switching operation more productive and reduce costs through savings in labor, fuel, switching time, and maintenance.   This is only piece of the puzzle to make the entire facility more profitable; but, because of the tonnage of materials that it handles, it is a very important piece of the puzzle.  When the locomotive operators understand that being more efficient is helping support not only their jobs; but also, the jobs of everyone in that facility then they will be more likely to see the big picture and support the purchase and operation of the Process Locomotive; because, it will can make their work easier and safer. Making a complex job simple and enjoyable is a great feature of the Process Locomotive design.
